My mom was the writer. Keep asking her to help me out and tell a story about us. Her mainly. She was the incredible woman I can only try to be. Probably why she isn’t chiming in yet. Modest and didn’t realize her own strength and beauty. She does now though. She died January 21st of this year. Still struggling with the loss. I’m lost.
Moved away in my early 20’s. Having her fall in my home 3 yrs ago was an opportunity to make up for times I wasn’t always around. It was the worst and best time of my life. Another reason the story might be important for others. It’s about the complicated relationship between mothers and daughters. Especially when you switch roles. It’s ugly, frustrating, beautiful, rewarding, exhausting. Each day was like a box of chocolates…..
It feels like this story is going to be out of order. You may exit stage left now, and I will have my own little cathartic sessions about the magic that happens when love takes over your life in relation to all things. Those mentioned in the title for a few. I won’t blog you down with the whole story. We’ll take small bites.
Brief rundown: Arliss Arlene came from a loving close family of 8 siblings. Two sisters remain. She survived two sons, two grandchildren, and husband. Eldest son Eric she nurtured for 25yrs. Severely handicapped, he was the love of her life. Her favorite, but that was ok. He was an Angel. She survived breast cancer, helped me through mine, dealt with alcohol abuse in our family, but never lost her faith in God. A quiet strength. If dementia was in her cards, she would start swearing and make up for all those years of being “too nice”. True. Oh and she was a card shark. Until she wasn’t.
